Widow Jane Distilling Company is based in Brooklyn, New York. It was founded in 2012 by Daniel Prieto Preston, owner of Cacao Prieto, a chocolate manufacturer.
Daniel grew up in Rosendale, New York, a center of limestone mining. The last mine there closed in 1970, and after the death of its owner, the place was named the Widow Jane Mine. Widow Jane Distilling Company recently began distilling, and its previous releases have been based on distillates from Kentucky, Tennessee, and Indiana, and processed on site with Rosendale water. The rye whiskey presented here was aged in bourbon barrels with additional applewood staves. Our bottle comes from batch no. 52 released in 2022.
Aroma : caramel, honey, cinnamon cereals, green apples, bananas, blood oranges, cardamom, fennel, notes of cloves and black pepper.
Palate : rye bread toast, baked apples sprinkled with brown sugar, lemon peel, white pepper, a mixture of fresh herbs, a bit of hay and oak.
Finish : medium long, with notes of rye bread, apples, fresh herbs, pepper, nutmeg and oak.
