Bowmore, the oldest working distillery on Islay, began producing whisky in 1779.
It is currently owned by Morrison Bowmore Distillers Ltd, which in turn is owned by Beam Suntory. Bowmore single malt is currently the second most popular whisky from Islay; with annual sales of over 2 million bottles (2021), it ranks behind Laphroaig. Old versions of Bowmore provide an unforgettable tasting experience, after long years of maturation, the whisky palette combines the sweetness of tropical fruits with a discreet note of peat. The Bowmore 1971 Vintage presented here is a drink as rare as it is extraordinary. The whisky spent 34 years in sherry casks and was bottled at 51% abv in an edition of 960 bottles.
Nose: complex, Christmas fruitcake, dried dates and figs, plum sauce, rose water, orange zest, cardamom, cloves, tobacco, forest floor, some seaweed and peat smoke.
Palate: slightly oily, prunes, apricots and figs, blood oranges, toffee, licorice, black pepper, ginger, mixed dried herbs, peat smoke and sherry-soaked oak.
Finish : long, with notes of dried fruit, mulled wine spice, herbs, dark chocolate, licorice, tobacco and peat smoke.
