Product description
The Grant brothers, James and John, built the Glen Grant Distillery in 1840.
John previously smuggled whisky from the Highlands to the Lowlands, while James became famous for his unusual method of borrowing money – he would offer his suppliers a £100 note, knowing that none of them would be able to change it. Since 2006, the distillery has been owned by Gruppo Campari and, equipped with four pairs of stills, can produce 6 million litres of distillate per year (currently using about 75% of its capacity). The whisky presented here, distilled on 21 May 1970, spent 4 decades in cask (probably ex-bourbon) no. 3497. Bottled at cask strength (48.5% abv) by Duncan Taylor Ltd. on 21 February 2011 in the super-prestigious Peerless series (which roughly translates to “without equal”). The edition consisted of 201 bottles.
