Fred Laing’s Old Particular series debuted in September 2013, shortly after the division of the assets of Douglas Laing & Co. between the two Laing brothers.
It is the equivalent of the Old Malt Cask range, which is owned by the newly formed Hunter Laing & Co and chaired by Stewart. Old Particular comprises single malt and single grain whiskies bottled in single cask. The Ledaig 21 year old on display here was distilled in October 1997 and aged in a refill hogshead cask (DL 13060). Bottled at cask strength (49.6% abv), natural colour and unchill-filtered in February 2019, in a limited edition of 256 bottles.
Nose: sea breeze and peat smoke, sweet breakfast cereals, toast with salted butter, smoked bacon, herbal spice, caramel, vanilla and a hint of damp hay.
Palate : slightly oily, peat smoke and brine, milk chocolate, salted caramel, lemon grass, white pepper, cherries, apples and some oak tannins.
Finish : quite long, with notes of peat smoke, sea breeze, milk chocolate, green tea, lemongrass and oak.
