Product description
Ferrand family history is inextricably linked to vines. Whether it was growing them, making wine, or distilling cognacs, the family has experience in these fields, as far back as 1630. A key role was played in the family by Elie VIII, born in 1839, when the Ferrand company was already very well-known in the region and thriving. For 88 years of his life, he devoted himself to nature, so much so that he built his own zoo, being curious about the life of animals in their natural habitat. He was also looking for new techniques whether in the production or maturation process of cognacs.
The most important, and most difficult, moment in history was the phylloxera epidemic of 1878. Elie was convinced that in order to defeat it, all grape growers must unite to find solutions. The end of Elie Ferrand's dynasty was brought about by World War I. In 1915, the last of the family Elie X, after a serious illness he contracted at the front, weakened, died of typhoid fever. The estate is currently managed by Henriette Ranson-Ferrand.
