Talisker Distillery is based on the Isle of Skye (Skye means “misty island” in Gaelic) and produces 3.3 million litres of distillate a year from five stills.
The local single malt remained largely unknown until 1988, when the Classic Malts series debuted, with Talisker 10 years old representing the islands. In the new century, the brand has seen incredible sales growth, with 3.4 million bottles in 2021, giving Talisker the eighth position in the category of the most popular single malts. Talisker 18 years old debuted in 2004, made from distillates aged in bourbon and sherry casks. Three years later, it won the title of best single malt whisky at the World Whisky Awards, and again in 2016. In 2022, the distillery changed its label designs.
Nose: rich, fruity, oranges, plums, apples, salted butter, vanilla, toffee, seaweed salad, pepper, a hint of cinnamon, a little iodine and a hint of peat smoke in the background.
Taste: perfectly balanced, fruity and smoky, toffee, vanilla, buttered toast, bananas, apples, salted peanuts, white pepper, hints of licorice, dried herbs and oak.
Finish: long, with notes of white pepper, salted peanuts, grapefruit, licorice, dried herbs and peat.
