The Laphroaig distillery was built in 1815 by brothers Alexander and Donald Johnston.
Until 1954, the distillery was owned by the founding family (Johnston/Hunter). The last of the family, Ian Hunter, doubled its production capacity and significantly increased whisky exports. Currently, Laphroaig Distillery is part of the Beam Suntory concern and, equipped with seven stills, produces approximately 3.3 million liters of distillate annually. Laphroaig 10 years old Cask Strength debuted in 1995 and is still the favorite version of this whisky enthusiasts; since 2009, it has been released on the market in limited batches, the so-called batches. The whisky presented here was bottled in the first decade of the new century. With global sales of 3.7 million bottles per year (2020), Laphroaig ranks seventh on the list of the most popular single malts in the world.
Nose : powerful peat smoke and ash, tar, vanilla, caramel, toffee, candied citrus peel, milk chocolate, sea salt, notes of tobacco and toasted oak.
Palate : rich, slightly oily, peat smoke, seaweed salad, salted caramel, vanilla, bitter orange jam, white pepper, grilled pork neck, notes of licorice and oak.
Finish : very long, sweet and smoky, with notes of vanilla, caramel, orange, grapefruit, sea salt, white pepper and iodine.
