When in 2014, due to differences in opinions of the owners of Bladnoch Distillery which made it impossible to reach an agreement, the court ruled that it should be liquidated, few people believed that three years later the plant would celebrate its 200th anniversary.
However, Bladnoch soon found a buyer in the person of Australian businessman David Prior, who after selling his thriving dairy company (which produced yoghurts) invested in whisky. In October 2015, when the distillery was undergoing renovation, Prior initially offered, in his native Australia, a blended whisky Pure Scot. Ian Macmillan, previously the master of blending Burn Stewart Distillers, of course used Bladnoch single malt in the formula, as well as malt whiskies from the Highlands, Speyside and Islay, as well as grain whisky. The Pure Scot presented here was finished in virgin American oak barrels.
