Product description
Tomintoul whisky is described by its owners as The Gentle Dram and it is indeed one of the smoothest single malts from Speyside.
However, each year the plant produces a batch of distillate from malted barley using peat, in which the concentration of phenol compounds reaches 50 ppm. In 2005, the smoky-peaty version of Tomintoul, Old Ballantruan, debuted, two years later Tomintoul Peaty Tang joined the offer. Tomintoul Tarn is another offer with a similar profile, this time offered to customers of the Travel Retail chain. The whisky was aged in bourbon barrels and bottled at 40% without an age statement. The name of the whisky is a transcription of the Norse "tjorn", meaning "lake", and many of the surrounding areas lie amidst peat bogs.
