Product description
In 2013, Penderyn Distillery began releasing its Icons of Wales series, consisting of 50 limited edition whiskies dedicated to famous Welsh people and events in Welsh history of international significance.
The sixth entry in the list, Royal Welsh Whisky was released in March 2019 and is a remembrance of Frognoch, the first commercial Welsh whisky distillery which closed its doors over a hundred years ago. Queen Victoria visited the distillery in 1891 and four years later, on 26th July 1895, granted it a Royal Warrant marking the birth of Royal Welsh Whisky. Times were not the best for the producers, prohibition sentiment was growing in Wales and the whisky, despite a strong advertising campaign, was unable to make it beyond the local market. In April 1900, Frognoch distilled for the last time.
