Product description
Mortlach Distillery began operation in 1824, the first of seven distilleries based in Dufftown.
The beginnings of the business were extremely difficult and it is hard to believe today that in 1831 Mortlach was sold for 270 pounds. In 1923 the distillery became the property of John Walker & Sons and to this day the distillate there is one of the main components of the Johnnie Walker Black Label blend. For almost the entire 20th century Mortlach experienced the status of a distillery known only to the most ardent whisky lovers, only the official edition in the Flora & Fauna series brought this excellent single malt to the attention of a wider group of consumers. The whisky presented here, distilled on May 4, 1970, after 21 years of maturation was bottled at cask strength (56.7% abv) by Gordon & MacPhail for the Italian market.
