- Old Overholt Bottled-in-Bond pays tribute to Bottled-in-Bond Act, a piece of legislation, which set the industry standards at the end of the 19th Century.
Product description
Old Overholt Bottled-in-Bond is another nod from Beam Suntory to the Bottled-in-Bond Act, which set the standard for whisky producers in the late 19th century.
At the time, over 99% of whiskey was substandard, and in 1897, the United States Congress passed legislation to protect both producers and consumers. A whiskey designated Bottled-in-Bond had to come from a single distillery, be distilled during a single season (January through June or July through December of the year), be aged for at least four years in federally supervised warehouses, and be bottled at 100 proof (50% abv). Old Overholt is distilled from a mash of 51% rye and about 40% corn (the rest is malted barley).
Aroma: caramel, roasted cereal grains, vanilla, peanut butter, orange peel, cocoa, cardamom, a pinch of pepper and a mint leaf.
Palate : toasted rye bread, vanilla, caramel, blood oranges, roasted nuts, cinnamon, cloves, black pepper, menthol and charred oak.
Finish: quite long, with notes of caramel, vanilla, toffee, cinnamon, dried herbs and charred oak.
