Littlemill 12-year-old (Bottled 1970s/1980s) /54%/0.75l
- Littlemill Distillery, founded 1772, until the mid 1990s legitimately claimed to be Scotland’s oldest working distillery. Sadly, distillation stopped in 1994 and two years later the distillery was dismantled.
Product description
Built in 1772, the Littlemill Distillery held the honour of being Scotland's oldest distillery still in operation until around the mid-1990s.
Unfortunately, it last distilled in 1994 and a dozen or so months later the distilling equipment was removed from there, and in 2004 the remains of the buildings were destroyed by fire. We do not know how large the current stock of this whisky is, for several years its supply has been negligible and the owner, Loch Lomond Group, does not provide any information on this matter. The Littlemill presented here is a historical edition from the turn of the 70s and 80s of the last century, all the more attractive because it was offered in cask strength, which was rare at that time.
Nose : blossoming apple tree, freshly cut grass, breakfast cereals, vanilla, lemon peel, apples, mirabelle jam, white pepper and a trace of pencil shavings.
Taste: slightly alcoholic, vanilla, milk fudge, pineapples, peaches, greengages, pralines, a touch of cinnamon and cloves and a light bitterness of oak.
Finish : medium long, with notes of vanilla, peaches, grapefruit, white pepper, dried herbs and oak.
