Littlemill 21-year-old, Second Release (Bottled 2014) / 47%/ 0.7l
- Littlemill could be a serious contender for the oldest distillery in Scotland title. It is highly possible that whisky was distilled on the site in the 14th Century, when the Colquhouns built Dunglas Castle to guard crossing the Clyde.
Product description
Littlemill is one of Scotland's oldest distilleries, with distilling at its site believed to have originated in the 14th century when the Colquhoun clan built Dunglas Castle to control the crossing of the River Clyde.
The distillery’s official birth date is 1772, and its long history has seen frequent changes of ownership and production breaks. When the Loch Lomond Distillery Company bought the idle Littlemill in 1994, we heard about plans to resume distilling on a small scale and set up a whisky museum. Unfortunately, two years later the distilling equipment was removed and the buildings were gradually demolished. Littlemill 21 years old debuted in 2012 with a limited edition of 3,000 bottles. Two years later we received another, this time 4,550 bottles. Both were offered in beautiful, squat black bottles, packaged in elegant wooden boxes.
