Based on the Isle of Islay, Bunnahabhain Distillery was established in 1881.
It is currently owned by Burn Stewart Distillers, which in turn has been part of the South African Distell group since 2013, and equipped with two pairs of stills can produce 2.7 million liters of distillate per year, of which about 35% is a smoky-peaty distillate. Bunnahabhain Distillery takes an active part in the annual Fèis Ìle (Islay Music and Whisky Festival), an event promoting Islay, its culture and historical heritage, and also prepares limited, commemorative editions of whiskies. In 2001, it was Bunnahabhain distilled on November 1, 1965, aged in a sherry butt no. 7159 and bottled at 53.9% abv. The edition consisted of 594 bottles.
Nose: vanilla, maple syrup, honey, nectarines, oranges, cantaloupe, sultanas, white tea, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, mint leaf, notes of wax and smoked ham.
Palate: slightly waxy, vanilla, toffee, honey, milk chocolate, walnuts, mango, oranges, papaya, cinnamon, nutmeg, pinch of pepper, notes of pipe tobacco and oak.
Finish: quite long, with notes of tropical fruits, vanilla, chocolate, black pepper, herbal mix and oak.
