Product description
The Elements of Islay is a range of single malt and blended malt whiskies created in honor of the legendary Isle of Islay.
It was introduced by London based Specialty Drinks Ltd (now Elixir Distillers) in 2008 and new bottlings are released several times a year. The Elements of Islay are bottled at natural strength, without chill-filtration and without age statement, either as a single cask or in small batches of up to 20 casks from a single distillery. The name of each bottling brings to mind Mendeleev’s Periodic Table, kind of chemical symbol of the distillery name followed by a number of subsequent releases. Bw8, bottled 2020, is the eight release of Bowmore, a vatting of ex-bourbon barrels and ex-sherry butts filled from 2001 to 2003. Only 1320 bottles were produced.
Nose: fruity and mildly smoky, grapefruits, lemons, mango, blood oranges, milk chocolate, raisins, honey, baked ham and a drop of barbecue sauce.
Palate: apricots, kiwi, papaya, orange chocolate, toffee, salted caramel, pralines, vanilla, cappuccino, dash of mixed herbs and distant whiff of smoke.
Finish: pretty long, with notes of peat smoke, tropical fruits, salted caramel, mixed herbs and oak.
