Product description
Bunratty Winery is located in County Clare, close to the famous 15th century Bunratty Castle.
The company is a producer of the most traditional Irish spirits – mead (meade) and a distillate called Potcheen. The recipe for the first was developed by medieval monks, and the finished mixture strengthened virility and fertility; the second is a spirit triple-distilled from malted and unmalted barley, the production of which was banned in 1661, and which returned to favor in the new millennium. The company's latest proposal (2021) is the Premium Blend presented here, a blend of malt distillates (part with a smoke-peat profile) and grain distillates aged in bourbon barrels, Oloroso sherry and so-called virgin oak casks for at least four years.
Nose: slightly smoky, vanilla, caramel, red apples, dried plums, milk chocolate, cinnamon, white pepper, notes of pencil shavings and oak.
Palate: caramel, vanilla, honey, plums, raisins, orange peel, mocha, allspice, cinnamon, traces of smoke and oak tannins.
Finish : medium long, with notes of vanilla, caramel, dried fruit, dried herbs, oak and peat smoke.
