Product description
Black Bowmore is not only one of the most collectible whiskies of all time, but also a spirit that set the highest standard for sherry cask-aged whisky.
In 1963, Stanley P. Morrison, a whisky broker, purchased the Bowmore distillery from the Grigor family. He renovated it, installed an additional pair of stills, and switched from coal to gas. Morrison purchased top-quality sherry barrels from William & Humbert and filled them with distillate that had drained from the stills on November 5, 1964. These were placed in the legendary Vault No. 1 stone warehouse below sea level. And so Black Bowmore was born, a whisky whose name refers to the almost black color extracted from said barrels. The first edition of Black Bowmore hit the market in 1993 at an astronomical price of... 80 (eighty) pounds.
This fourth edition was released in 2007 as part of a trilogy, alongside Bowmore White (2008) and Gold (2009). The whisky was aged from five Oloroso sherry casks and bottled at 40.5% abv. “Almost ebony in colour with indescribable aromas of exotic fruits, cinnamon and ginger. The palate is caressed by notes of ripe mango, toffee and dark chocolate, wrapped in Bowmore’s subtle peat smoke, while the creamy, warming finish is the ultimate in luxury.”
