Product description
Togouchi whisky debuted in 2003 in the offering of the Chugoku Jozo company based in a suburb of Hiroshima.
The company has been operating since 1918 and specializes in sake and shōchu, and it was only on its centenary that it built its own distillery, Sakurao. Togouchi blends are made from distillates mainly from Scotland and Canada, blended on site and additionally aged (or finished) in a 361-meter-long abandoned railway tunnel. The Togouchi Beer Cask Finish presented here has spent recent months in barrels that originally aged Martinican rum, and later French IPA beer. In 2021, the Togouchi line was expanded to include a single malt from Sakurao Distillery.
Aroma : roasted malt, hops, honey, caramel, roasted peanuts, a bit of coconut flakes, baked apples, traces of peat and oak.
Palate : honey, toffee, vanilla, baked apples, grapefruit peel, hops, lemongrass, mixed nuts, a pinch of white pepper and a trace of peat.
Finish : medium long, with notes of vanilla, brown sugar, honey, citrus peel and a light oak bitterness.
