Product description
The Glen Avon brand has been shrouded in mystery for decades. In the 19th century, the Glen Avon (or Glenavon) distillery produced whisky in the village of Ballindalloch in Speyside.
Today, there is no trace of it, the last mention of the distillery dates back to the late 1850s, yet limited quantities of Glen Avon single malt still make it onto the market. The rights to the brand are held by Gordon & MacPhail, or rather their subsidiary Avonside Whisky Ltd. The whisky bottled as Glen Avon is aged in Gordon & MacPhail's warehouses in Elgin, but the company does not reveal which distillery it comes from. Perhaps the location of the Glen Avon Distillery, the village of Ballindalloch, where we find the Glenfarclas distillery today, will give us a clue (or maybe it's just a coincidence).
The 15-year-old presented here is, in our opinion, from the 1980s and bottled by Gordon & MacPhail for the famous Italian distributor, Sestante. At the time, Sestante worked closely with Scottish whisky publishers Wm Cadenhead Ltd and Gordon & MacPhail and many of the fruits of this collaboration achieved ‘classic’ status well into the last century and are now at the top of every whisky collector’s list.
