Product description
The Rare Malts selection is a series of bottlings first released by United Distillers (predecessor to Diageo) in 1995 and discontinued in 2005.
Rare Malts followed success of Flora & Fauna and Classic Malts collections and were a big step forward into the sophisticated world of single malts. The early releases featured whiskies from distilleries that had been closed or demolished, distilled between 1969 and 1981 and aged from 18 to 30 years. As stocks diminished the company included rare vintages from distilleries still in operation. Glen Ord appeared three times in the Rare Malts range; each edition comprised whisky distilled from 1972 to 1974 from barley malted on site (Glen Ord used Saladin box from 1961 to 1983). Here we have the second release comprising whisky distilled in 1973, aged for 23 years and bottled at 59.8% abv in 1997.
