Product description
Linkwood Distillery is based in the Speyside town of Elgin. It produces over 5.5 million litres of distillate per year, the lion's share of which goes into Diageo blends, mainly Johnnie Walker, Bell's, White Horse and Haig's.
Linkwood single malt has never been widely available, with the last popular official release being the 12 year old in the Flora & Fauna series. Independent distributors aren’t exactly showering us with Linkwood either, although Gordon & MacPhail regularly offers it in both aged and vintage versions in their Distillery Labels. The whisky on display here was distilled in 1972, shortly after the installation of a second pair of stills, and spent more than four decades in sherry hogshead cask no. 14976.
Nose: very elegant, bouquet of garden flowers, lavender, linden honey, vanilla, cinnamon, brown sugar, nutmeg, pears, apples, raisins, fresh herbs, notes of leather and sherry-soaked oak.
Taste : consistent with the aroma, herbal mixture, black pepper, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, dried figs and dates, plums, baked apples, vanilla, chamomile tea and oak.
Finish: quite long, with notes of herbs, dried fruit, honey, black pepper, nutmeg and oak.
