Product description
The Macallan Distillery was registered in 1824 by Alexander Reid, although records show whisky being produced at The Macallan Farm since the beginning of the century.
The Macallan changed hands several times in the 19th century, being taken over in 1892 by Roderick Kemp (owner of the Talisker distillery) and the distillery remained under his family’s control for the next century. For decades The Macallan played a key role in the formulation of leading blends such as Chivas Regal, Famous Grouse and Bell’s, and was only available locally in single malt until 1980. The 12 year old presented here comes from a 1980s batch intended for distribution to Travel Retail.
