Product description
The small Caribbean island of Trinidad once boasted as many as 50 rum factories.
The Caroni Distillery was founded in 1918 on the site of an old sugar mill. The distillery operated both traditional stills and column stills, and the rum produced there was heavy, just right for supplying the British Navy. In 2001, the distillery was sold to Angostura and closed for good a year later. Caroni rum was given a second life by Luca Gargano's visit to Trinidad in 2004, when he discovered a forgotten warehouse of barrel-aged rum.
Caroni 1993 17 Years is a molasses-based rum, a blend of column still and pot still distillates. The rum has spent 17 years maturing in American oak ex-bourbon barrels. It is made from the contents of 7 barrels and the edition is limited to 4,279 bottles.
