Product description
By the 1980s, The Macallan had become the standard by which consumers began to compare other single malts. The Macallan 18 years old debuted in 1984, when the brand was already experiencing popularity outside of Scotland.
It was distilled in 1965, and for the next 20 years, the 18-year-old version would be released with a vintage designation. In 2004, other 18-year-olds debuted: Fine Oak, combining The Macallan aged in sherry and bourbon casks, and Sherry Oak, without a vintage designation. The Macallan presented here is a 1997 edition bottled for Italian importer Giovinetti & Figli. Distilled in 1979, the whisky was aged exclusively in sherry casks from Spanish oak.
Nose: deep notes of sherry, bitter orange jam, dried plums and cherries, dried mushrooms, toffee, vanilla, honey, coffee beans, a touch of ginger, traces of tobacco and leather.
Palate : Strong sherry and oak notes, dark chocolate, hazelnuts, Christmas gingerbread, blood oranges, pink grapefruit, ginger, nutmeg and a high-class cigar.
Finish: long and well-balanced, with notes of dried fruit, dark chocolate, oriental spices, oak and sherry.
