The Glenfarclas distillery, built in 1836 by Robert Hay on Rechlerich Farm, near the town of Ballindalloch, has belonged to the Grant family since 1865.
Glenfarclas' annual sales exceeded 2.5 million bottles in 2020, and the brand's fans are considered extremely loyal to it. The distillery's basic sales offer lists around ten age versions, which complement the vintage versions each year. The Glenfarclas presented here, distilled on 29 September 1961, was aged in two Oloroso sherry casks (no. 3052 and 3053) and bottled at 50.5% abv on 7 December 2009. This limited edition (336 bottles) was intended for the German market.
Nose: rich and well-balanced, sherry, honey, blood oranges, pink grapefruit, plums, grape skins, dark chocolate, nutmeg, potpourri, notes of leather and oak.
Taste: true to the aroma, orange jam, figs, cherries, raisins, caramel, toffee, honeyed almonds, dark chocolate, allspice, a pinch of pepper, sherry and oak.
Finish : very long, with notes of raisins, orange peel, nuts and almonds, dark chocolate, black pepper, nutmeg, tobacco and oak.
