Product description
White Horse Whisky is named after an old coaching inn in Edinburgh that belonged to the Mackie family, one of the most influential figures in the Scotch whisky industry in the late 19th century.
James Logan Mackie became the owner of the Lagavulin distillery in 1856 and about 20 years later his nephew Peter Mackie joined the company and earned the nickname Restless Peter. White Horse blend debuted in the mid-1980s and quickly became a success. It was the first whisky to hit the market in metal-capped bottles, which doubled its sales. Three years after Peter Mackie's death, White Horse Distillers Ltd was taken over by the DCL group (1927). While the most important ingredients of the original formula were Lagavulin, Glen Elgin and Talisker, the current ones are led by Caol Ila, Clynelish, Linkwood and Glenlossie.
The whisky presented here is a special commemorative release for the 1987 America's Cup sailing regatta held at the Royal Perth Yacht Club in Western Australia. It is composed mainly of 12-year-old distillates; we have also heard it described as "the younger brother of Lagavulin".
