Operating since 1812, Brackla Distillery is the first Scottish distillery to be granted a Royal Warrant (granted by King William IV in 1833), giving it the right to use the term "Royal" in its name.
The plant is currently owned by John Dewar & Sons, a subsidiary of Bacardi, and produces over 4 million liters of distillate annually. At the end of 2019, the company announced a change to its core offering with 12-year-old Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish, 18-year-old Palo Cortado Sherry Cask Finish and 21-year-old finished in Oloroso, Palo Cortado and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. The final maturation takes place in first-fill casks, and the whiskies are bottled at 46% abv and without chill filtration.
Nose : pronounced notes of sherry, milk chocolate, toffee, caramel, hazelnuts, black cherries, nectarines, oranges, hints of nutmeg and oak.
Palate: rich, honey-roasted almonds, milk chocolate, raisins, caramel, vanilla, candied ginger, nutmeg, notes of tobacco and oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of chocolate, roasted nuts and almonds, dried fruit, pepper and a slight bitterness of oak.
