Product description
Xoriguer Mahón is probably the oldest gin in the Mediterranean.
Its formula dates back to the early 18th century, and is distilled in a 250-year-old copper still. The gin is named after the port town of Mahón in Menorca, where a British naval base was located in the 18th century; needless to say, Mahón was the drink of choice for British sailors at the time. Xoriguer as a brand of Mahón gin debuted in the 1920s. The word "Xoriguer" means "windmill" and refers to the windmill that once belonged to the Pons family, owners and producers of this gin. The formula of Xoriguer Mahón is known only to a few members of the family, and we know that it contains juniper berries, local herbs and probably citrus fruits (or their peels). The base of the gin is a grape spirit distilled from grapes from the Penedès region. Annual production is around half a million bottles, of which over 60% are sold locally.
Xoriguer Mahón is a very aromatic gin, in its bouquet we discover lemongrass, cedar, wildflowers and juniper berries. In the taste strong notes of juniper, some citrus, herbs and a pinch of pepper. We recommend serving with Fever Tree Mediterranean tonic with the addition of a slice of lemon.
