Product description
Fred Laing's XOP series debuted in 2014, a dozen or so months after the division of Douglas Laing & Co.'s assets between the two Laing brothers.
XOP stands for Xtra Old Particular and refers to the finest single malt and single grain casks from the family’s stock. In the summer of 2019, the XOP Black Series debuted, intended for the most unique. Such is undoubtedly the Bunnahabhain 1990 Vintage presented here, a whisky aged in a refill hogshead cask no. DL 14861 for over three decades and bottled at cask strength (43.5% abv) and without chill filtration in April 2021 in an edition of just 291 bottles. Each one bears the signature of Fred and Cary Laing, son and granddaughter of the founder of Douglas Laing & Co., the current owners of the company. (Producer’s note.)
Nose: Fragrant vanilla sticks mingle with honeyed barley, caramel cream and charred oak.
Taste : the sweetness of citrus fruits slowly replaced by juicy sultanas and dried apricots, with a salty breeze in the background.
Finish : a combination of mandarin peel, milk chocolate and candied nuts with notes of seaweed.
