Product description
Fred Laing's XOP series debuted in 2014, a dozen or so months after the division of Douglas Laing & Co.'s assets between the two Laing brothers.
XOP stands for Xtra Old Particular and refers to the finest single malt and single grain casks from the family’s stockpile. The Macallan 30 years old is the crème de la crème of the XOP collection. Distilled in February 1990, the whisky spent three decades in a refill hogshead cask, DL 14631. Bottled in January 2021 at cask strength (44.4% abv) in a limited edition of 209 bottles. (Producer’s tasting note.)
Aroma : wonderfully sophisticated, initially burnt sugar releasing citrus notes, then a box full of autumn fruits and the warmth of sprouting barley.
Taste: on the palate a velvety, silky and subtle range of flavours, citrus again (this time led by orange), roasted nuts with ginger, chocolate, licorice and a delicate note of copper.
Finish: an extension of the flavour palette, with leading notes of orange and a subtle spiciness of spices.
