Product description
The history of Saint James rum dates back to 1765, when the first rum produced in Habitation Trou Vaillant in Martinique was exported to North America.
Named Saint James due to the anticipated difficulties in pronouncing the proper name of the plantation. The second half of the 20th century saw interest in local rum producers in Martinique from international corporations, the takeover of Rhums Saint James by Cointreau and the concentration of all production in the town of Sainte-Marie on the north-west coast of Martinique. The opening of the new production plant took place in 1973, and was attended by the future president of France, Jacques Chirac. In 2003, the distillery was taken over by La Martiniquaise, owner of, among others, Scottish distilleries Glen Moray and Starlaw, as well as one of the best-selling blended whisky brands in France, Label 5.
Saint James 2000 is a limited edition vintage, advertised as the first vintage of the new millennium (quite wrongly, though). The rum agricole from this vintage matured for 6 years in oak barrels. Awarded at the Concours Général Agricole in 2008 and 2012, as well as the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in 2010.
