Product description
The Bruichladdich 21 years old presented here is an extremely rare, collector's edition released to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Scotch whisky (1489-1989).
The label features the "Penny Black", the world's first commercial postage stamp. It was issued in 1840 and depicts Queen Victoria, who reigned from 1837 to 1901. The anniversary whisky was most likely distilled before Bruichladdich was acquired by Invergordon Distillers (1968) and bottled by Brae Dean International for the Italian importer, Moon Import. Moon Import was founded in 1980 in Genoa by Pepi Mongiardino and quickly became famous as an importer and distributor of high-end wines and spirits and the so-called "Independent Bottler". Pepi Mongiardino whiskies are rated on a par with those endorsed by the legendary Silvano Samaroli. The edition consisted of 3,216 bottles.
Nose : sherry, smoked plums, raisins, a dash of barbecue sauce, toffee, cocoa powder, black pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, notes of polished leather and oak.
Palate: black cherries, Hungarian jam, raisins, dark chocolate, roasted almonds, dried porcini mushrooms, licorice, lapsang souchong tea, nutmeg, pepper and sherry-soaked oak.
Finish : long, with notes of sherry, caramel, chocolate, dried plums, nutmeg, oak and a fleeting trace of smoke.
