The Clan Denny series debuted at the beginning of the new century and initially consisted of old single grain whiskies.
Distribution was handled by Hunter Hamilton & Co., a subsidiary of Douglas Laing & Co., owned by brothers Stewart and Fred Laing. In 2013, the brothers split up and divided the company's assets. The latest Clan Denny releases include single grain whiskies, single malts and blended malts, distributed by Douglas McGibbon & Co., another subsidiary of Douglas Laing & Co., now owned solely by Fred. The Clan Denny Chronicles presented here comes from "probably Orkney's finest distillery" and is aged in a refill hogshead cask, DMG 14529. Bottled at cask strength (62.2% abv) and without chill filtration, in an edition of 371 bottles.
Aroma : malty, slightly mineral, vanilla, heather honey, apples, pears, lime jam, roasted nuts, white pepper, wet chalk and gravel, notes of peat and oak.
Palate : sweet breakfast cereals, honey, brown sugar, oranges, grapefruits, gooseberries, salted nuts, herbal spice, pepper, notes of hay and oak.
Finish: quite long, with notes of breakfast cereal, honey, toffee, citrus peel, nuts and oak.
