- The name Jura translates to “Deer Island” from the Old Norse language and even today the island’s 200 residents are outnumbered by deer by a ratio of 20:1.

In Old Norse, Jura means "deer island" and to this day there are 20 deer for every two hundred inhabitants of the island.
The Jura Distillery, built in 1810, struggled throughout the 19th century, and its buildings were empty from 1901 to 1960. The last decade has seen unprecedented success for the local whisky, with sales increasing by over 500% over the past decade and now exceeding 2 million bottles. The Jura presented here, distilled in July 2008, spent over 12 years in a refilled hogshead cask no. DL 14616. Bottled at 48.4% abv and without chill filtration by Douglas Laing & Co. in the popular Old Particular series in February 2021 in an edition of 369 bottles. This whisky is one of four released under the slogan "Cheers to Better Days".
Nose : vanilla, sea salt caramel, toffee, honeycomb, sweet bread, cappuccino, apples, lemon peel, a pinch of ginger and oak.
Palate: honeyed breakfast cereal, vanilla cream, candied lemon peel, toffee apples, oranges, hints of licorice, white pepper and oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of vanilla, toffee, licorice, cinnamon, ginger and oak tannins.
