Product description
Today, few people would deny the title of The Macallan's most collectible whisky.
Few remember, however, that in the 1970s the company's finances were not looking good. The Macallan was a key component of Chivas blends and Seagram, the owner of the brand, decided to change its formula, giving up The Macallan in favor of Strathisla. Soon, The Macallan's management began promoting its single malt, placing great emphasis on aging the distillates exclusively in sherry casks. The first The Macallans hit the market in the 1980s and since then we have noted a phenomenal increase in the brand's popularity. The 25 year old Anniversary Malt edition debuted in the mid-1980s and remained in the offer until the beginning of the new century. This whisky is a true work of art, an unusual example of a single malt aged for a quarter of a century in sherry casks and not dominated by its flavor.
Nose : rich and complex, sherry, raisins, dried dates and figs, old leather, orange peel, honey, cocoa, oak, a pinch of black pepper, traces of tobacco and peat.
Palate: intense sherry notes, roasted almonds, dried plums, cherries and figs, candied ginger, dark chocolate, nutmeg, leather and oak notes.
Finish: very long and complex, sherry, caramel, honey, raisins, nutmeg, toasted almonds and a subtle oak bitterness.
