Product description
Built in 1879, Glenrothes Distillery is one of four distilleries currently operating in the Speyside town of Rothes (the fifth, Caperdonich, closed in 2001).
The early history of the distillery was marked by a series of misfortunes, from financial problems of the owners to an explosion and fire that caused significant damage to the buildings. It is now owned by the Edrington Group, owner of Macallan and Highland Park, and is fully utilising its distilling potential (5.6 million litres per year). Glenrothes is a key component of Famous Grouse and Cutty Sark, but the single cask editions there are particularly noteworthy. The whisky presented here, distilled on 21 June 1999, spent almost two decades in an American oak hogshead cask (no. 8163). Bottled at 58.8% abv for the Belgian market in November 2018 in an edition of 279 bottles.
