Product description
As we read on the official website of Shin Group, co-producer and owner of several dozen Japanese alcoholic beverages, there is more than one distillery behind the Kujira whisky brand.
Kujira 30 years old was distilled from 100% Indica rice at Masahiro Distillery on Okinawa Island in 1989. Bourbon barrels, sherry barrels and American oak virgin casks were used for maturation, and the edition consisted of 1998 bottles. Masahiro Distillery, based in Okinawa, began operating in 1883, founded by Shobun Higa, and became famous for producing high-class awamori, a traditional Okinawan spirit distilled from rice. Other producers creating the Kujira brand include Kumesan Distillery and Shinzato Shuzo. (Official tasting note.)
Aroma : nectar, caramel, heavy smoke as if from the wood of burnt antique furniture.
Palate: Soft and subtle with complex notes of citrus fruits, caramel custard, dried persimmon, sugar and ripe juicy berries; oak tones release the delicate acidity of Chinese herbs.
Finish : The combination of nectar and oak tannins creates a subtly sweet and lingering finish.
