Glencraig whisky was produced at the Glenburgie distillery between 1958 and 1981. It was distilled in a so-called Lomond still, a cross between an alembic and a distillation column.
Its lower part is no different in shape from a traditional alembic, while the neck contains three movable rectification plates, the position of which determines the length of contact of the vapors with the copper. The distillate obtained in this way was intended exclusively for blending, mainly Ballantine's. Glencraig 1975 is a proposal of the Gordon & MacPhail company in the prestigious Rare Old series (RO/12/02). The whisky comes from a refilled hogshead barrel of white American oak, the content of which translated into 170 bottles.
Nose: sweet and fruity, apples, gooseberries, orange and lemon peel, lemongrass, a hint of violets, vanilla, white pepper and charred oak.
Taste: lots of vanilla and caramel, orange peel, lemon tart, pepper, nutmeg, some cloves and cocoa and cedar notes.
Finish : medium long, oak, apples, pears, vanilla and milk chocolate.
