In 1993, Gordon & MacPhail bought the Benromach Distillery from the UDV group. Five years later, the newly equipped distillery was working again, and in 2004, the first whisky distilled by the new owners, Benromach Traditional, debuted. Gordon & MacPhail's mission is to recreate the profile of the classic "Speysider" from the 1950s, which means distilling from malt with a phenol concentration of 12-14 ppm and using bourbon and sherry casks for maturation. In 2020, the company changed the presentation of the basic offer; the new one is definitely more eye-catching. The latest edition of Benromach 10 years old contains whiskies aged for 9 years in bourbon casks (80%) and sherry casks (20%) and, after blending, an additional year in Oloroso sherry butt casks.
Aroma: malty and fruity, apples, peaches, milk fudge, milk chocolate, vanilla, a bit of hay and peat smoke, cinnamon, traces of tobacco and leather.
Taste: well balanced, apples, oranges, raisins, yeast cake, vanilla, cinnamon, allspice, walnuts and a bit of smoke in the background.
Finish: quite long, pleasantly spicy, with notes of summer fruits, tobacco, leather and a delicate whiff of peat smoke.
