Fred Laing’s Old Particular series debuted in September 2013, shortly after the division of the assets of Douglas Laing & Co. between the two Laing brothers.
It is the equivalent of the Old Malt Cask series, which belongs to the newly formed Hunter Laing & Co and of which Stewart is chairman. Old Particular comprises single malt and single grain whiskies bottled in single cask. The Tomatin 25 years old presented here is a whisky distilled in February 1995 and aged in bourbon cask no. DL 13909. Bottled in March 2020 at 55.2% cask strength, unchill-filtered and with natural colour in an edition limited to 267 bottles.
Nose: rich, fruity, apples, pears, bananas, apricots, vanilla sticks, caramel, milk chocolate, cinnamon, buttery croissants and delicate notes of nuts and oak.
Palate : ripe apples, nectarines, vanilla cream, buttered toast, orange jam, milk fudge, sugared peanuts, cinnamon, cloves, notes of tobacco and oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of vanilla, toffee, crème brûlée, milk chocolate, ripe summer fruits and oak.
