Product description
Glen Garioch is a small distillery based in Old Meldrum in the Eastern Highlands.
It began operating in 1797 and, equipped with two stills (the third, unused for years, was removed during the 2020 renovation), produces around 1.3 million litres of distillate per year. Until the 1990s, Glen Garioch was one of the more ‘peaty’ Highlands whiskies, but now distills from malt free of phenols. Here we present Glen Garioch from the ‘old school’, a whisky distilled on 26 September 1979, aged in a 5351 sherry butt for 23 years and bottled at cask strength (56.4% abv) in 2002 as part of the prestigious ‘Official Distillery Archive’ series.
Nose: a beautiful combination of peat and sherry, forest floor, pine resin, geranium, potpourri, raisins, blackberries, prunes, caramel, a pinch of black pepper, notes of leather and oak.
Palate : powerful, sherry, raisins, black cherries, prunes, blackcurrants, crème brûlée, dark chocolate, pepper, nutmeg, mixed dry herbs and oak.
Finish : long and rich, an extension of the flavor palette.
