Product description
Silvano Samaroli is considered by most connoisseurs to be a whisky publisher deserving of the highest respect, even a visionary. He began his career in the whisky market in 1968 and managed the company for the next four decades. During that time, he became famous for his excellent selection of casks, now considered legendary. Most of the early editions received the highest marks and are very rarely seen at auction. In 2008, Samaroli left the management of the company in the hands of Antonio Bleve, with whose family he had worked for many years, although he himself played an active role until his death in February 2017.
The Glenlivet 1971 presented here was released in 1993 as part of the “Aquarelles Series”, featuring watercolours by Samaroli himself. The whisky spent around 22 years in sherry cask no. 10214 and was bottled at 46% abv in an edition of 900 bottles.
Silvano Samaroli describes this whisky as follows: "a classic Speysider, slightly smoky, with sweet notes of vanilla and honey. Fruity and vegetable in taste, freshly cut grass, hay, tea, pears, cherries, glasses and dried figs, accompanied by the captivating sweetness of sherry. In the long finish, notes of licorice and walnuts. The whole thing is perfectly balanced."
