In the summer of 2018, Brown-Forman Corporation launched a new series of Jack Daniel's, the Legacy Edition Series. According to Jeff Arnett, Jack Daniel's Master Distiller, "the whole world knows the black label of the standard Jack Old No. 7, but few know that over the years it has changed many times and often diverged dramatically from today's design."
The first whiskey in the series featured a green label, used before 1904, the year Jack Daniel's won its first gold medal at the St. Louis Spirits Fair in Missouri. The Legacy Edition 2 label featured a black background with a rope and anchor and three stars symbolizing Jack's inseparable connection to his native Lynchburg and the state of Tennessee.
The third edition of the Legacy Series was released in September 2020, coinciding with the decision of Jeff Arnett, master distiller and creator of the series, to end his career at Jack Daniel's Distillery. Its label has a soothing tone and is based on a pre-prohibition graphic design emphasizing the traditional production methods and high quality of Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey. Drawings of ears of grain or a sketch of the "charcoal mellowing" process give the whiskey authenticity and unique character.
