Product description
Santiago de Cuba is the second – after Havana Club – brand of Cuban rum nationalized after the Cuban Revolution and associated with the state-owned Corporación Cuba Ron.
The distillery was founded in 1862 in the town of Santiago de Cuba, in the eastern part of the island. Santiago brand rums – as the locals call them – are currently produced in the former Matusalem distillery, which was nationalized after 1959 and whose owners moved production to the Dominican Republic. Like the vast majority of Cuban rums, Santiago de Cuba rums are made from molasses.
Santiago de Cuba Isla del Tesoro is an extraordinary rum. Until recently, it was not available commercially, used only during high-level visits, as a gift from Cuban government officials. Currently available on the market, offered in an attractive ceramic carafe, packed in a wooden box, reminiscent of a pirate treasure chest. In the bouquet, it offers accents of coffee, raisins, cane sugar, oak, orange peel, licorice, apricots and peanuts.
