Product description
Glenfarclas Distillery was built in 1836 by Robert Hay. After his death in 1865, John Grant and his son George purchased the distillery and immediately leased it to John Smith, owner of The Glenlivet.
John Grant died in 1889 and the family soon began producing whiskey themselves and continues to do so to this day. Today, key functions are held by the fifth and sixth generations of Grants – John LS Grant and his son George S. Grant.
Glenfarclas’s historic series, presented here, consists of four bottles dedicated to key members of the first four generations of Grants. Their portraits appear on the labels. The whisky came from four Oloroso sherry hogsheads (nos. 2332-2335) filled on 25 December 1959 (the last one the distillery worked at Christmas) and bottled on 24 June 2002. Each of the parallel editions consisted of 240 bottles, and the Historic Reserve Nº2 presented here is dedicated to George Grant (1830-1890).
According to the producer's note, "this dark amber whisky with a hint of exquisite Oloroso sherry has a rich and complex range of aromas; an elegant and mysterious single malt full of exotic fruits and vanilla, with a subtle bitterness of oak"
