Product description
Laphroaig Distillery has been producing whisky, almost without interruptions, for over 200 years.
Laphroaig is by far the best selling Islay malt with annual sales of 4 million bottles (2019). The distillery still produces its own malt however it covers only 15% of the requirement, the remaining part is supplied by Port Ellen Maltings. Laphroaig 10 years old has been the distillery core expression for decades. It is a classic Islander, very smoky and peaty, slightly briny but with distinctive sweetness of vanilla and fruits. Here we have an old bottle of Laphroaig 10 years old (most likely from the 1980s) marketed as ‘Unblended Islay Malt’, destined for the Italian importer Francesco Cinzano & Co. Iain Henderson, Laphroaig former master distiller used to say: “love it or hate it but at least try it once”.
Nose: peat smoke, sherry and tropical fruits, mango, bananas, lychee, apples, roasted nuts and almonds, toffee, caramel, mixed herbs, traces of iodine and tarry ropes.
Palate: smoky and sweet, vanilla cream, toffee, milk chocolate, oranges, honeydew melon, coconuts, raisins, salted nuts, eucalyptus drops and a touch of iodine.
Finish: long, with notes of peat smoke, tropical fruits, vanilla, mixed nuts and iodine.
