O'Connell's Irish Blended Whiskey / 40%/ 0.7l
- O’Connell’s is a pretty obscure brand of Irish whiskey.
Product description
O'Connell's is a now completely forgotten Irish blended whiskey with an extremely interesting pedigree.
In the mid-1990s, after the modest success of Cooley blends distributed in supermarket chains, the management of Irish Distillers decided to create a whiskey that would be in a similar price range, but would be superior in quality to Cooley blends. The new blend was combined with a high proportion of 6-year-old single malt and single pot still whiskey with a relatively low proportion of 3-year-old single grain whiskey and was given the "working" name O'Connell's. In 1996, this whiskey was entered into the International Wine & Spirits Competition and, to everyone's surprise, won a gold medal. Why Irish Distillers completely ignored the success of their product remains a mystery, O'Connell's never saw wide distribution, and today it remains just a word in the history of Irish whiskey.
Unfortunately, we did not have the opportunity to taste this whiskey, apparently it is an excellent "classic Irish blend" in which the single pot still whiskey plays the leading role.
