The word Amrut translates from Sanskrit to “elixir of life” and is also the name of India’s first single malt.
It debuted on August 24, 2004 in Glasgow, and is now available on all continents. Since its debut, this whisky has had an impressive number of editions, and has also won over 20 medals and awards. Amrut Double Cask is a blend of whisky distilled from Scottish "peated" malt and aged in a bourbon barrel no. 3189 filled in May 2012 and a port barrel type pipe no. 2715 filled two months earlier. The edition consisted of 1,050 bottles and hit the market in June 2017.
Nose: sweet and spicy, candied orange peel, raisins, apples, vanilla, brown sugar, white pepper, cinnamon, licorice and peat smoke in the background.
Palate: toffee, caramel, lemon meringues, raisins, oranges, smoked plums, roasted almonds, cinnamon buns, a pinch of salt and pepper, traces of oak and peat.
Finish: quite long, with notes of sweet bread, candied citrus peel, cinnamon, cloves, tobacco and peat smoke.
