Product description
Bunnahabhain Distillery has been producing whisky since 1881 and is still somewhat overshadowed by powerhouses such as Ardbeg, Lagavulin and Laphroaig.
The current one belongs to Burn Stewart Distillers, which in turn has been part of the South African Distell group since 2013. Since then, the brand's sales have more than doubled, and a dozen or so ultra-premium editions have definitely raised its prestige. The one presented here is the real crème de la crème of this distillery. The whisky distilled in 1980, when the plant belonged to Highland Distillers Ltd., spent over three and a half decades in Oloroso sherry casks, after which it was placed in Canasta sweet sherry casks (a blend of Palomino and Pedro Ximénez grapes). Bottled in 2017 in a limited edition of 1,200 bottles. (Producer's tasting note.)
Aroma : intense notes of oak, dried fruit, figs, raisins and sultanas balanced by toffee syrup, dark chocolate and vanilla.
Taste: True to the aroma, rich oak notes balanced by the sweetness of dried fruit and toffee syrup, black coffee and cocoa, roasted nuts and a touch of salty breeze.
Finish: long and dry, a combination of fruity sweetness and oak bitterness.
